Peter Frater

Peter Frater

Chairman

Following 15 years as a newspaper and magazine journalist I spent 16 years managing in-house PR teams for Alfa Romeo, Daihatsu, Ferrari, Jeep, Kia and Mazda, before co-ordinating communications for Inchcape’s global automotive businesses. But my best career move came when I co-founded PFPR in 2001 and helped develop and lead a great team to where the agency is today – at the top of its game.

What I enjoy about working at PFPR:

Having the total confidence to be hands-off and enabling the most talented, creative and committed team in the world of automotive PR and events to deliver great results for all of our clients.

Favourite PR campaign I've been involved in:

Developing and delivering the PR strategy to launch the Jeep brand into the UK in the early 90s was my in-house highlight. We had a lean team, we were innovative and we took risks - but we achieved great results as Jeep became established. We learned many lessons that PFPR applies today.

Interesting fact about me:

I’ve been driven by top racers on the track and leading rally drivers on ice – but my biggest adrenalin rush came in the air, as a passenger with the amazing Red Arrows. Thirty years on I can still close my eyes and the thrill returns of just how close the aircraft were in "Diamond Nine" formation. My best assignment as a journalist by far!

Current car:

Maserati Cambiocorsa Spyder. I fell for the ageless styling and superb engine when PFPR helped Maserati launch the car in 2002, so I couldn’t resist when I found an immaculate 16,000-mile example. The CD player is superfluous – just lower the roof and listen to that 390 PS Ferrari-based V8!

My training in news journalism led me to automotive writing and magazine editing, which then brought me into in-house PR, first with Rolls-Royce/Bentley, then Fiat and finally Chrysler Jeep. My last stint in-house was as Head of PR for Chrysler in Europe based in Brussels, after which the amazing PFPR adventure began.

What I enjoy about working at PFPR:

Overcoming spectacular communications challenges and hurdles to gain positive and fabulous coverage for our clients, often after refusing to accept “no” or “it’s not possible” for an answer.

If I was a headline:

Half man / half journalist

Interesting fact about me:

I’m a Parish Councillor in my spare time, trying to make a positive contribution in a Kent village of just 800 residents.

Favourite car:

The Jaguar 420 – my unfulfilled dream. I restored one when I was 15 years old but had to sell it when I was 17 to pay for my driving lessons. I never drove it on the road and still haven’t driven a 420. One day…

Managing Director

My PR career started at a consumer and B2B technology agency. I worked at several specialist automotive agencies from 2002 and then joined PFPR in 2006.

What do you enjoy most about working at PFPR?

Every day brings bags of variety and a host of fresh challenges. We’ve got a very talented team and some great clients to keep us extremely busy. It makes a real difference to me to know we’re the best at what we do, but it’s satisfying to always look for ways to be better.

If I was a headline:

Man bites cake.

Interesting fact about me:

I do triathlons, and very occasionally I knit.

Favourite driving road:

A591 between Ambleside and Keswick. A lovely flowing road with epic scenery, connecting two of my favourite places. It’s a constant disappointment to me that PFPR won’t relocate to the Lakes.

Mike Stainton

Senior Account Director

I started my career managing technology PR worldwide for Lotus, before going agency-side, working on automotive and non-automotive accounts. I joined PFPR in 2007 to focus solely on automotive PR and have been lucky enough to work with a broad spectrum of clients, from blue chip giants to entrepreneurial start-ups and boutique brands.

What I enjoy about working at PFPR:

Learning from a brilliant senior team and coaching and developing passionate juniors. The huge challenges and immense satisfaction of delivering for some of the biggest brands in the automotive industry. The opportunities to travel, develop, and learn new skills.

If I was a headline:

“Father of four finds 25th hour in the day”

Something to look forward to:

I’m saving up with a few colleagues here to buy a project car which we’ll take to track days. It’s a pipe dream really, but maybe one day…

Favourite driving road:

The Apache Trail through the Superstition Mountains in Arizona: dramatic cactus-adorned landscape with the odd genuine cowboy on horseback around a blind bend, just to keep you honest.

Senior Account Director

I'm now in my second stint at PFPR having started my career at the agency, working my way through the ranks while experiencing global product launches, specialist niche brands and working on the account for the British International Motor Show. I moved to industry body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) for five years, running the media operation that demanded front-line contact with national UK broadcast and print media to promote and defend the UK automotive manufacturing and retail sectors. I returned to PFPR in 2014 as Head of Media Relations.

What I enjoy about working at PFPR:

Working in a dynamic and creative environment that changes by the minute is rewarding and makes every day an interesting new challenge. The people at PFPR are great too and with such a breadth of experience there are always fresh ideas and new approaches to keep our clients ahead of the game.

If I was a headline:

'World famous billionaire racing driver' from Kent wins imagination competition

Something to look forward to:

Every holiday, every year… we have a 'never go back rule' so we're ticking our way through exotic locations around the world!

Favourite car:

My favourite, yet sadly unobtainable, car is the Maserati GT, it's a beautiful looking vehicle and isn't the typical 'top choice'

James Parsons

Senior Consultant

After joining Hyundai Motor Company in 2008 as press officer, I’ve built a career in corporate, brand and event communications working in Seoul, London and Frankfurt. I’ve launched cars, managed reputations and helped develop business strategy, and enjoyed every minute of it (well, almost).

What I enjoy about working at PFPR:

I’ve come to appreciate the variety that working at an agency brings. In a single day you can be launching a new brand while managing the long-standing reputation of another. Life at PFPR is about seeing every challenge as an opportunity, while constantly growing as a communications professional.

If I was a headline:

Luton lad turns out okay, Mum says

Interesting fact about me:

I spent three years living on an island in the Korea Strait

Favourite driving music:

My guilty pleasure while driving has to be Rammstein. You can’t beat a bit of German industrial metal to get you through the ordeal that is the M25.
